Summer Skiers

We took Kevin's parents up to Lillehammer today to see the Olympic Museum and ski jumps. We were thrilled to see the competitive skiers out on the jump, whizzing by on their porcelain tracks. It was a little surreal to see all those skiers in their racing outfits, riding up the chair lift and then whooshing down the ski jump in July!
We haven't been able to show George and Maria any Norwegian wildlife yet, but at least we got a picture of them with the stuffed moose at Nikker's in Lillehammer. George also got to try some moose sausage from a street vendor...he said it was "robust." We leave tomorrow morning for Trondheim, and I'm really hoping that somewhere along the way, they get to experience some moose who are still alive!

What do the skiers land on? Is that what the big green thing is for?

Hi Emily! What k said---what do the skiers land on? Or is it like a cartoon, where people go down but no ones comes back up? ;-)

I hope your guests get to see some wildlife, too, and I don't mean just some drunk Norwegians in Trondheim. If you do see a moose, though, I hope it's at a safe distance! Happy travels!

K, the track itself is some kind of astroturf-y stuff and there is real grass at the very bottom. I don't know how they do it, but not one of the skiers we watched wiped out!
Michele, no wildlife so far (except for magpies and seagulls), just the usual assortment of farm animals running loose on the roads. Emily
